About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and result-oriented individuals to serve as an active volunteer to serve in support of the organization's mission. The individual will work closely with our team so support the implementation of our English class
Duties: Candidate is expected to commit to a 12 weeks or more and expected to do the following duties
1. Lesson Planning
Prepare engaging and culturally sensitive lesson plans tailored to the needs and proficiency levels of the students.
Incorporate interactive activities, visual aids, and multimedia resources to enhance understanding.
2. Class Instruction
Conduct English lessons via Zoom, focusing on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Use interactive teaching methods to encourage student participation and engagement.
3. Cultural Sensitivity
Recognize and respect the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of the students.
Adapt teaching methods to address cultural nuances and varying learning styles.
4. Technology Facilitation
Ensure students can access and effectively use Zoom and other online learning tools.
Troubleshoot basic technical issues to minimize disruptions during class.
5. Student Support
Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to build confidence in using English.
Offer individual assistance as needed, addressing specific learning challenges.
6. Communication Skills
Maintain clear and effective communication with students, ensuring instructions are easy to follow.
Use visual aids, gestures, and repetition to support comprehension.
7. Progress Assessment
Monitor and evaluate students' progress through quizzes, homework, and informal assessments.
Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their English skills.
8. Cultural Exchange
Encourage discussions that allow students to share their cultural backgrounds and experiences.
Use these exchanges to enrich the learning experience and promote cross-cultural understanding.
9. Coordination
Communicate with program coordinators to discuss students’ progress, challenges, and resource needs.
Attend training sessions or meetings to stay aligned with the program’s goals and methodologies.
10. Resource Preparation
Develop or source supplemental materials like vocabulary lists, grammar exercises, and conversation prompts.
Share resources and recordings of lessons with students for additional practice.
11. Patience and Adaptability
Be patient and adaptable to the varying pace of students’ learning.
Adjust teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of the group or individuals.
Requirements
Proficiency in English and Teaching Skills
Must have a strong command of the English language, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Prior teaching experience or familiarity with ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching methods is preferred but not mandatory.
Cultural Sensitivity and Patience
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, particularly refugees and immigrants.
A compassionate and patient approach to teaching, recognizing the unique challenges faced by learners adapting to a new language and environment.
Technological Proficiency and Commitment
Comfortable using Zoom and other online platforms for virtual classes.
Ability to commit to a consistent teaching schedule and dedicate time for lesson preparation and student follow-up.
College school students are encourage to apply.
we expect to have class every Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8:30pm. Our next cohort is expected to start on February 5, 2025
